Mystery: Caroline Flack’s death is third tragedy to hit Love Island in two years
Caroline Flack’s death at the age of 40 is the third tragedy to hit Love Island since the show began.
Her death follows the deaths of former contestants Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon.
A lawyer for the Flack family confirmed the Love Island host took her own life and was found in her east London flat today.
A family spokesperson said “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today, the 15th of February.
“We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”
Caroline started presenting Love Island in June 2015 and was a big hit with fans of the show.
In December last year it was announced the star would be standing down as host for its sixth series after it emerged she had been charged with allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.

Love Island was first hit by tragedy in 2018 when star Sophie Gradon took her own life at her parent’s home in Ponteland, Northumberland.
An inquest found the 32-year-old hanged herself after taking cocaine and alcohol. Her body was found by her boyfriend Adam Armstrong and his brother Ryan.

He added: “Sophie would not, without having taken alcohol and cocaine, have acted as she did.”
He made it clear that he was not recording a suicide ruling however there was no third party involvement.
The inquest heard she had last contacted her boyfriend Aaron at around 3am on the day of her death.
Tragically Aaron was found hanged just 20 days after she died having taken a similar cocktail of cocaine and booze.
Mike Thalassitis, who appeared on the show in 2017, took his own life after taking cocaine and alcohol in March 2019.
He was found hanging by a woman out jogging at a park near his North London home, an inquest heard.

According to fellow contestant Montana Brown, Mike had been in a “dark place” in the months before he died.
Senior Coroner Andrew Walker said: “There’s a clear intention within the notes that Mike Thalassitis’s life should come to an end.
“In order to deal with the notes what I propose to do is to is to summarise them.
“That is to say there were a number of notes left behind and messages in which Mr Thalassitis clearly set out his intention that his life should come to an end.”
Mr Walker said: “There were no suspicious circumstances.
“The summary of the notes set out plainly as far as I can see that Mr Thalassitis’ intention was that his life came to an end.”
His death sparked a national discussion over the welfare of reality stars and the care provided to those who are thrown into the spotlight.
ITV also announced it would be stepping up its care procedures to ensure contestants felt safe and comfortable.
An ITV spokeswoman said: “Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news.
“Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.”
