Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa Bryant’s decision not to fly in a helicopter together was done keeping their children in mind, and not necessarily because they thought something might happen.
“It’ s not necessarily because you are concerned something will happen, it’s just a precaution,” a source close to the family told People Magazine.
As far as why they decided to always fly separately while taking a helicopter, “A lot of couples with children make plans that are in the best interest of their children. It was the same for Kobe and Vanessa.”
Decision Not To Fly Not ‘Fear-Based’
A source told the outlet, “The decision to not fly together was not fear-based. It was a decision that they made because they felt it was the best for their family. As very family-focused parents, they always considered what was best for the children.”
Kobe Bryant said previously in an interview, that the reason for flying in helicopters in the first place was to spend more time with his family.
A huge issue to the basketball star was getting stuck in traffic on the way from Los Angeles back to his home in Orange County.
Kobe’s Reason For Flying Was To Spend More Time With His Family
Kobe revealed to Alex Rodriguez in the 2018 interview, he “had to figure out a way where I could still train and focus on the craft but still not compromise family time.”
He continued, “I was sitting in traffic and I wound up missing like a school play, So that’s when I looked into helicopters, to be able to get down and back in 15 minutes and that’s when it started.”
At the time of his tragic helicopter accident, Kobe and his daughter Gigi were flying to the Los Angeles area with a group of players and parents for a youth basketball game.
Vanessa Bryant Breaks Silence On Tragedy
As we reported, Vanessa Bryant broke her silence on Instagram addressing the tragic death of her husband and daughter.
“My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri,” she wrote.
Cause Of Accident Not Yet Determined…
She continued, “We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately.
There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon.”
Investigators with the NTSB are still trying to piece together what led to the fateful accident and if weather was a major factor. A cause is not expected for several weeks.
